One of very many benches around Swanage with memorial plaques or engravings, this one is in memory of Dr G. de Jersey, who in 1935 convened a meeting to form the Swanage Sailing Club, of which he became the first Commodore.

Now, here we come to yet another Swanage "mystery" (I think perhaps I'm just not very good at finding answers!). There is a window in St Mary's Church (Swanage's parish church) "in memoriam Grant Walter Stewart de Jersey, Beloved Physician, 1901 - 1972". You see the problem here? The bench has his dates as 1927 - 1972. But as above, he formed the Sailing Club in 1935; hardly likely if he was born in 1927, as an 8-year old. Especially since his daughter Alesta was born in 1934... Do the dates refer to his residence in Swanage?

Alesta no longer seems to be a name, if indeed it ever really was. It is, however, the title of the third studio album recorded by Romanian recording artist Alexandra Stan. Bet you never expected to learn that when entering the Treasure Hunt!
